RP log with Kyle

Who: [livejournal.com profile] trueltning_fury and [livejournal.com profile] queenknightpimp
When: this afternoon
Where: near the lake and at Mamie's cafe
What: connecting the dots of the past

Kyle: *in the fading hours of the day, whipping his glaive around in the complex patterns of a kata, sometimes stabbing it like a spear and sometimes slashing like a sword*

Geddoe: *was coming down to the lakeside, looking for signs of changing weather, when he spots Kyle training by himself. A good place to pause and watch in curiosity*

Kyle: *the pattern seems meaningless until he gets to a familiar part to Geddoe: he twists his body around an imaginary sword thrust to land low and sweep the glaive in an arc. Then he leaps up to point the glaive at another target, stabs downward to the ground, climbs on the crossguard to lash out with a kick*
Kyle: *Then he lands from the flying kick to pluck the glaive from the ground and sweep it around him one last time. Seeing no more opponents, he relaxes into a guarded stance with a long sigh*

Geddoe: *moves down from the steps into the grass, making just enough noise to be heard coming before he speaks* Impressive. I'm going to have to take my own skill up a notch next time we spar.

Kyle: Or you could kick my ass now. It wouldn't be hard to now. *stretching to cool down*

Geddoe: It isn't about who wins, it's about testing limits. It wouldn't be fair to either of us if I took advantage of you being tired.

Kyle: *grins* You're so noble. Go be a knight, why don't you?

Geddoe: Tch... *shakes his head* I'm not that noble. Trust me.

Kyle: What brings you over here? Just takin' a stroll? *stretching his arms carefully over his head*

Geddoe: Sort of. I wanted to check the wind direction off the lake. See if it's going to snow tonight or not. *peers upward* These thick clouds don't tell you a thing.

Kyle: I didn't realize you could tell anything from clouds other than you might have less sun.

Geddoe: Sometimes you can. What? Never learned to track the weather from nature?

Kyle: Can't say that I have. Only that if there's a lot of clouds gathering, it's probably rain.

Geddoe: It's one of those things you have to know well if you're going to spend your life living on the road. You know, so you don't camp for the night beside a stream that's going to flood after a freak storm. *smirk*

Kyle: Granted. *hefts his glaive over his shoulder* Oh man, I'm beat as all hell.

Geddoe: Up for a drink? I've got some time to kill.

Kyle: Just one. I need some food more than anything. I'm feeling a little light headed from all that exercise.

Geddoe: *shrug* We're closer to the cafe. I'm not hungry but they've got warm drinks, now.

Kyle: Score. Let's go, old man.

Geddoe: *fine to walk alongside, down along the lake* I ran into Bernadette yesterday. Sounds like things are going well between you two.

Kyle: Nothing but good with my girl. *a rather goofy looking smile on his face as they get some seats and order food at the cafe*

Geddoe: *chuckling* Glad to hear it. It's been a long and crazy year, hasn't it?

Kyle: It's been one of those years you wish didn't happen, yet, you're glad it did. I guess...I understand myself a lot more. Even if it means I'm more darker than I think. *takes a bite out of his sandwich*

Geddoe: *happy with a cup of strong Calerian black tea, for now* Everyone has a little darkness in them. It's whether or not that's the part you let control you, day to day. *tries to take a sip but it's too hot, yet* I think it safe to say you're going to be all right.

Kyle: Now that I know where it comes from and that it's actually a good if bent part of me, yeah.

Geddoe: *smiling vaguely* Better bent than broken. Reeds in the storm and all that. *finally able to sip his tea*

Kyle: I guess. *takes another bite of his sandwich and swallows* Oh, I met some guy the other day. A foot soldier guy. Maybe someone you rolled with in that first Firebringer War?

Geddoe: *frown* ...foot soldier? The only one here from the first war is Kaiden...and he was no foot soldier, Kyle.

Kyle: Oh? Who was he? Somebody hardcore? *takes a bite of his sandwich*

Geddoe: *direct look across the table* The Flame Champion.

Kyle: *blinks and then chokes on his food*

Geddoe: *droll look* Swallow first. Then breathe.

Kyle: *does so and has to cough a lot to clear his throat* Okay, THAT is pretty hardcore.

Geddoe: He was the leader of the Grasslands army, yes. I was his right hand man. Or left... *another shrug* ...depending on where Wyatt wanted to stand.

Kyle: So...this must be really weird for you.

Geddoe: ....a little. He's the last person I would have expected to see here. But...at least the castle didn't resurrect him. I think I'd find that a little upsetting if his rest had been disturbed.

Kyle: So...did you tell me about him before? I can't remember.

Geddoe: Hm. Let me think. It's been more than a few months... *mulls it over a sip of tea* I'm sure I mentioned him, since I've told you a few things about the Runes and the wars.

Kyle: *thinks about when it could have been* ...wait. Was it while I was still hopped up on painkillers at the infirmary?

Geddoe: Probably. I think we had some of our darkest talks during that point in time. *starting to remember* Yeah...yeah, now that you mention it. I think it was.

Kyle: I don't think you ever told me what his name was. Just that he pissed you off real bad and I shouldn't be like you, broken for years and years.

Geddoe: ....you remember that much, do you? You must not have been as drugged as you thought. *lowers his eye to gaze at the table* I...got in the habit of only referring to him as 'Flame Champion' like everyone else did during the war. After twenty or thirty years, only a handful of people in the world even remembered he had an actual name.

Kyle: What did he do that had you so pissed off, old man?

Geddoe: *quiet moment to gather his thoughts* He...chose to abandon the cause he picked up. Partly out of fear of his Rune, mostly because he was in love and wanted to grow old with his wife. Grasslands and Harmonia be damned.

Kyle: *wide eyed look* So...he gave the cause and everyone attached to it the finger?

Geddoe: I'm sure it was more complicated and didn't seem like that to him, but...that is what it looked like from my perspective. *grumbling* I thought he was a fool, choosing Sana over the Grasslands...we didn't part in anger, but I resented his choice.

Kyle: So you felt a little lost.

Geddoe: You could say that, yes.

Kyle: *dawning realization* THAT'S why you didn't want me sinking too deep when I was messed in the head.

Geddoe: I knew how it felt, to be without a purpose. Prior to being at Kaiden's side, I was nothing but a bandit, wandering aimlessly through the world. I didn't join his cause to have a cause, I joined it because I believed in him.

Kyle: So...when he left, it was like...damn.

Geddoe: To be fair, he arranged everything right. A fifty-year truce with Harmonia. Budehuc's free trade zone. He made it so neither I nor Wyatt had to worry either, but we had to all go our separate ways.

Kyle: To hide out?

Geddoe: We didn't seal our Runes like he did. Wyatt's had a partial seal on it. I carried mine openly.

Kyle: All right. So...you're probably still pretty pissed at him.

Geddoe: *slow shake of his head* Not so much anymore. At least, I don't think so. After all...I went to his resting place this summer to make amends, of a sort.

Kyle: Wow. I guess you know now how I felt when Ferid popped in for no reason.

Geddoe: I don't know...were you ever angry with him? I remember running into you that day, you looked relieved, if nothing else.

Kyle: Well, no. I mean, you know how it is now to see someone you thought was gone forever.
Kyle: I could never be mad at Ferid. *voice grows quieter* He saved me.

Geddoe: *faint smile* If anything, I felt the same when I arrived here a year ago and saw Wyatt alive.

Kyle: Yeah. So I guess you do know. *grin*

Geddoe: A little. *the smile fades* It's different with Kaiden. I'm glad to see my friend, but he's been brought here from shortly after we parted ways. I've had fifty years to hold my grudge and finally get over it...he's barely said goodbye to me.

Kyle: Ooooh. Awkward.

Geddoe: *nod* Complicated.

Kyle: Kinda like me and Alenia.

Geddoe: From what I've seen? Probably. But Kaiden and I never openly fought. We had words over it, but we still said kind things to each other at parting. *sigh...the tea is cold now, it needs refreshing* I don't know. I'll concentrate on the good things about having him here. I don't want to revisit an argument I thought I laid to rest.

Kyle: Probably a good idea. Man, I swear you usually don't say much. Then we sit and bullshit and you're a fountain of knowledge. *smart ass grin*

Geddoe: I blame you. You ask all the right questions. *idle shrug* Or you catch me when my guard is down, one of the two.

Kyle: Guilty as charged. *preen* Anyway, nice to chat with you. Gotta make it back to my girl.

Geddoe: Yeah. Maybe I'll round up my other half and see if he's ready for dinner yet. *gets up from the table*

Kyle: Later, man!
