RP log with Kyle

Who: [personal profile] trueltning_fury and [profile] queenknightpimp
When: within a day of Geddoe's missing knitting needles
Where: around
What: serious catching up and deep talk

Kyle: *idly twirling his glaive, feeling pretty limber after a good workout*

Geddoe: *stomping down the front steps, not wanting to have to go to the supply shop to buy new knitting needles* .........

Kyle: Old man thunder!  What's got you in a pout?

Geddoe: Hm? Kyle...hey. *blink* Is that the new weapon you bought?

Kyle: This?  Yeah.  Pretty nice, eh?  *the weapon in question is 4.5 feet of highly polished teak, capped in iron with water motiffs at the butt and at the other end, 18 inches of very pointy steel*

Geddoe: It's gorgeous. Mind if I handle it for a minute? I promise not to scratch it.

Kyle: Sure thing.  Blessed in the Feitas, it is.  *hands it over*

Geddoe: *hefts the weapon in both hands, gauging its balance and the smooth motion of a slight swing* Impressive. A work of art, if I do say so myself. *admires the polished wood handle a moment before handing it back* You're already practicing with it?

Kyle: Yeah.  Getting the feel for it and recapturing the Arc and the Flow.

Geddoe: *head-tilt* The what?

Kyle: You know the...oh wait.  I guess you wouldn't...*scratches his head* It's hard to describe...

Geddoe: Try me. Is it a term of martial arts or something?

Kyle: No.  In fact, the only reason I know what it finally is is I read some memoir of a Queen's Knight in the library.  It's also called Seven Steps Ahead.  *thinks how to describe*  Okay.  So you've seen a lot of people fight, right?

Geddoe: *nod* You could say that. I've been all over the continent, I've seen just about every style there is.

Kyle: Well, the knight in the book claims to have seen people with the Arc and Flow.  Like he says people have the essence of the river in them.  I guess anyone really attuned to Water Runes would apply.  You tap into the Arc and the Flow of the water either in your rune or youself for strength.

Geddoe: *rubs his chin thoughtfully* I suppose that makes sense. I've heard of more than one style that purports to tap into a rune element, or be based off the elements. It sounds interesting. *cants his head again* And you're attuned to water, already.

Kyle: Lelcar is a town built on an island in the Feitas River, which runs through the country.  So I guess water runs in my blood.  Anyway, this knight says that people who are really good at tapping the Arc and Flow can get something called Seven Steps Ahead.

Geddoe: *eyebrow raise*

Kyle: It's like...I just -know- what someone will do.

Geddoe: Mm. Anticipating the pattern of movement. I can understand that much. A good fighter has to be able to predict at least a few steps of the dance in order to be precisely where the sword is not. Or else get himself cut.

Kyle: Yeah, only if I'm really into it, I can also just...come  up with stuff.  I can't explain it better than that.  And it always works to stop the soldiers.  Calling it Seven Steps Ahead seems to be about the best way to describe it.

Geddoe: I see. Well, at least, I think I see. Maybe the next time we fight shoulder to shoulder, I'll be able to really see it for myself.

Kyle: I just wish I could control it.  It seems to just happen, like I'm reading the future.

Geddoe: Interesting. *keen look* Very interesting. Most people don't touch that kind of instinctive power without a True Rune.

Kyle: Hell, my dad could have had a True Rune, for all I know.  *shrugs*
Kyle: It's just interesting to finally have something to call this thing.

Geddoe: It looks like your recovery time was well-spent. *grin* Reading up and learning.

Kyle: Do you have ANY idea how many books I've read?  It's sick.

Geddoe: Well, at least no one can accuse you of being a brainless thug with a blade. *shrug* Even so, I'm keen to see you fight with that thing. Especially if your strength is coming back.

Kyle: *doesn't say anything at first*  I haven't....I mean, I haven't tried it yet.  Facing someone.

Geddoe: All in good time. I took weeks of just swinging my sword every day, for hours, doing exercises, until I thought I was ready to face an opponent. When you get to that point, you'll know. *eyebrow* Pretty soon you won't need that pendant to remind you that you're strong.

Kyle: The what...oh this?  *looks at the pendant wrapped around his right wrist*

Geddoe: *nods* That's what it stands for. Strength and pride - or so Belcoot told me.

Kyle: Hmmm.  I think I have them.  People say I'm a lot better.  I guess I need to test myself first.  Ferid said he'd be happy to see if I still have it in me to swing this thing for real.

Geddoe: Sounds like a good idea. *wry grin* Now that I've taken his measure myself...he'll probably beat you senseless, but it'll be a good workout.

Kyle: *SIGH*  Yeah, Ferid's REAL good at that.

Geddoe: You weren't kidding about him. He's amazing. I'm glad fate gave me the chance to face him. *wince* But I think I'm still feeling those bruises, on top of the ones I got last week.

Kyle: You think that's bad?  I used to work for the guy!  NEVER beat him once.

Geddoe: Well, he wouldn't be a respected commander if his own knights could beat him, would he?

Kyle: Probably not, but my ego would feel better!

Geddoe: Point taken. It's something to aim for, I guess. At least you have the chance to try, again. *remembers Kyle's reaction to having Ferid alive again* You're not going to stop with Ferid, though...you still plan to face me, right?

Kyle: *nods slowly* I gave my word.

Geddoe: Good. I don't want you to feel you have anything to prove to me...but I do want to see how much you've healed. And I don't mean your scars. *taps Kyle's chest lightly*

Kyle: *smiles a little bit* Thanks, Geddoe.

Geddoe: *nods* It's the least I can do for a friend. *wry smile* And a swordbrother.

Kyle: True.  *pause*...what were you stomping about before?

Geddoe: *scratches the back of his head* Ahh...some of my knitting stuff has turned up missing. I tore up the room looking for them and they're not there, I don't know what else to do except suck it up and buy a new set of needles.

Kyle: Sure you just didn't dump them off somewhere?

Geddoe: *shakes his head* I had taken it out to work on it, to quiet my nerves after...*cough* after last week. I always leave my needles stuck in a ball of yarn so I don't lose them - and it was out on the table in our room. That's the last I saw them. Before I went to get something to eat.

Kyle: *nods along to the story until* Wait, what happened last week?

Geddoe: *dark look* I was attacked and dragged off.

Kyle: *says what he thinks of that in three words starting with WTF*

Geddoe: That's why I was in such bad shape when I came crawling back here the other day. *sigh* I was ambushed right outside the castle grounds and abducted...took me three days just to hike back.

Kyle: So what's these guys want?  *concerned, uses a Kindness Drop*

Geddoe: *smiles slightly in gratitude for the refresher* I wish I knew. They didn't talk much, all I gathered was that they were working for someone else. I'd have tried to get more out of them, but when I broke loose, it was either kill them or let them kill me.

Kyle: So somebody from a while back that you pissed off?

Geddoe: I don't know. It's no secret, I've made a lot of enemies in my time. It could be any one of them, though if they hired who I think they did to do the dirty work...it would have to be someone with a large purse. *folds his arms and sighs*

Kyle: How about we think it over after a drink?

Geddoe: Now that's the best idea I've heard all day. At least, a much more interesting one than looking for my needles. *claps Kyle on the shoulder* Whose turn is it to buy?

Kyle: Probably mine.  Don't kill my potch, okay?

Geddoe: Don't worry. As long as you get the first round, I can take the second. Deal?

Kyle: Right on!
